What Are the Main Purposes of OHS Law In BC & AB?

The OHS Law or Occupational Health and Safety Regulation is a set of laws in British Columbia and Alberta designed to keep employees safe from harm by regulating and maintaining the safety of the work environment.

There are two purposes of Occupational Health and Safety Law. In this blog article, we are going to be discussing each of them and how businesses can meet OHS requirements.

Holds Businesses Responsible For Employee Safety

Firstly, Worksafe BC laws and OHS laws hold employers responsible for employee safety. These laws require employers to provide employees with emergency training, and employers can face penalties for putting their employees in dangerous situations.

OHS laws were created to hold businesses liable for the well-being of employees in their workspace. Businesses can be fined or have their entire business closed if they are conducting their business in a manner that does not meet OHS regulations.

Creates Safe Guidelines for Work Environments

The second purpose of the OHS is to create on-the-job safety guidelines for workplaces. These guidelines hold employers responsible for providing training on the equipment, facility, and the tasks being performed.

The OHS was created to build a safer workplace where employees are aware of risks, understand how to avoid them, and protect themselves by following established safety precautions.

How Can Businesses Meet OHS Regulations?

The main purposes of OHS and WorksafeBC laws are to keep employees safe and hold businesses responsible for conducting unsafe acts. However, becoming fully compliant with these laws can be a challenge.
